A note from our Club President:

I tend to be a loyalist. I am loyal to those things to which I belong, (why belong if I’m not going to be a good and active member?) and I find it very difficult to break those loyalties—even when I don’t totally agree with everything the organization believes, teaches, or requires. I don’t agree with all of the policies, etc. of our government, yet I proudly fly an American Flag in front of my home. I don’t agree with everything the United Church of Christ promotes, yet I was a pastor in that Church for 38 years, and still hold ordination there. There are some things about Rotary that irritate me, but I am truly proud to be a Rotarian, and happy to serve this year as your President. I THANK YOU for this honor, this privilege, and this opportunity. I hope I can continue in the tradition of the fine Presidents York-East has had ever since we were chartered as a Rotary Club in January of 1988.

From the training I’ve received, I can tell you that Rotary, like almost everything else, is CHANGING. There are already pilot clubs that are experiencing some new ideas and ways of going about being Rotary Clubs. We are not one of those, but throughout this year we will be moving TOWARD some of those goals and doing some reorganization. I will be working very closely with Elizabeth Wolf our President-elect and with our Board and Committees. We will covet your support and solicit your involvement.

Two things that will not change are an emphasis on membership, and support of the Rotary Foundation. I guess that may be a “no-brainer” – what IS Rotary if not those?

Most of our Lane Chairs have consented to continue their leadership in their respective roles while embracing some changes as we go forward. I’m really glad for that, and happy to share with you the members who make up our current Board of Directors:

President Jim Walters
President-elect Elizabeth Wolf
Immed. Past Pres. Dr. Lydell Nunn
Vice President Still needed
Secretary Angie Hartman
Treasurer Tom Zellers
Membership Roger Dick
Community Service Wendy Keesee
Club Service Joe Hackett
Vocational Service Steve Altland
International Service Steve Fluder
Rotary Foundation George Dvoryak
At-large member Connie Spark
At-large member John Schriver

With YOUR help 2010-2011 will be a great year for the York-East Rotary Club, one that will make us all proud to be Rotarians, and one that will accomplish some things that will make a difference. The Rotary International theme for this year is “Building Communities---Bridging Continents”. I think this is a wonderful theme that incorporates the closeness of local clubs, and the vision or theater in which Rotary International seeks truth, justice, health, and goodwill for all.

Thank you
Jim
