Thank You Sustaining Members
We finished the Rotary Year on June 30, 2010 with $8,969 in Foundation giving. This included $4,969 from our membership and the Club’s matching $4,000. Sadly, this fell just short of our $9,000 goal. Had I had my spreadsheet updated just a few days earlier, I would have donated another $31!
Happily, our giving also included four club members reaching their Paul Harris Fellow +1 benchmark of $2,000 in total Rotary Foundation contributions:

Polio Facts & Figures from RI
Rotary, with the help of friends like the Bill and Malinda Gates Foundation, UNICEF, and the World Health Organization is just a tiny bit short of eliminating polio from the entire world. As long as there is even ONE new case, children throughout the world are at risk. Rotary has been working with its world partners for 20 years on this mammoth project, and we’re VERY close to being successful. Look below at the figures:
Area number of cases in 2010:
Afghanistan 10
India 21 (down from 67 in ’09)
Nigeria 3 (down from 312 in ’09)
Pakistan 24
Non-endemic countries 291
Total 349
BUT, there has been a new outbreak just this year in Tajikistan...

A note from our Club President:
I tend to be a loyalist. I am loyal to those things to which I belong, (why belong if I’m not going to be a good and active member?) and I find it very difficult to break those loyalties—even when I don’t totally agree with everything the organization believes, teaches, or requires. I don’t agree with all of the policies, etc. of our government, yet I proudly fly an American Flag in front of my home. I don’t agree with everything the United Church of Christ promotes, yet I was a pastor in that Church for 38 years, and still hold ordination there...
